A new crane in the skyline of Goulburn
Published on 08 April 2020
Auburn Street will be home to a tower crane in the near future, as construction of the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre ramps up.
The project is well underway, with Zauner Constructions completing the majority of excavation work, and now undertaking the foundation screw piles, basement concreting and building the pad for the tower crane that will be on site throughout the project.
“While much of the country is working under very different circumstances, it’s great to see that construction of the Performing Arts Centre at the Old Town Hall in Auburn Street is progressing with no major speed bumps” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
“Zauner Constructions did have some delays during February due to the beautiful rain we have received, however they are well into the excavation and sub-structure works, laying the foundations for this brilliant facility.”
A revised construction program will be submitted to Council later this month, and will take into account the impact of rain delays throughout February.
Council appointed Zauner Constructions to the project in late 2019, making the decision at the time to include the fly tower at an additional cost of $450,000. The total project cost was also approved at this time, being $18.95m.
When completed, the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre will seat 400 attendees in a stunning theatre hall, and provide the performance space our region deserves.
The project is a great example of all three levels of government combining. $4.5m has been gained through the NSW Government Regional Cultural Fund, and a further $1m through the Federal Government National Stronger Regions Fund. Veolia Mulwaree Trust have also generously pledged $2.5m as a community partner for the project.
Only $6.3m in loan funding is being taken out for construction of the Performing Arts Centre by Council, and this will be locked in at the low interest rate of 2.5%.
