Dispose of face masks correctly

Goulburn Mulwaree Council and Endeavour Industries are reminding community members that disposable masks cannot be recycled and should therefore be placed in the general waste bin.
The majority of these face masks are manufactured out of soft plastics, which contaminate our recycling and cause issues for Endeavour Industries. Keeping our recycling products free of contamination is critical to the ability of Endeavour to sell these products for reuse.
Paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars (no lids) aluminium cans, aluminium foil (rolled into ball), milk and juice cartons and hard plastics marked 1 to 5 can all be placed into your yellow lid recycling bin.
Below are examples of common items that CANNOT go in the recycling bin.
- recyclables in plastic bags
- plastic bags
- soft plastics (which can be ‘scrunched’)
- polystyrene foam
- takeaway coffee cups
- drinkware/crockery
- broken glass
- food
- nappies
- batteries, light globes, mobile phones
- hazardous material e.g. syringes, sharps, medical waste, asbestos, gas bottles
- motor oil
