Eight new citizens welcomed

Eight new citizens were welcomed by Mayor Bob Kirk on Thursday, in what was the first citizenship ceremony able to held during 2020, due to COVID-19.
Mayor Kirk was joined by Deputy Mayor Peter Walker to present certificates to the citizens who come from a range of countries including Sweden, Ireland, United Kingdom, Scotland, Philippines, Palestine and India.
“It has been a difficult year, and a long wait for some of these new citizens as we worked through COVID-19 patiently waiting for the chance to host a ceremony. During this time people have been offered the opportunity to complete their citizenship through online events, however it is such a nice occasion that many chose to wait until a ceremony could be held in person” said Mayor Kirk.
“Citizenship ceremonies are one of the nicest events I get to attend and officiate in my role as Mayor, and hopefully we can keep on top of COVID-19 and continue holding in-person events in some format moving forward.”
Following the ceremony the new citizens along with family and friends enjoyed a socially distanced morning tea with Mayor Bob Kirk and Deputy Mayor Peter Walker.
Photos taken throughout the ceremony are available to view on the Goulburn Mulwaree Council Facebook page.
