Funding granted for main street spruce up

$55,000 worth of funding will be distributed across sixteen different projects for painting, restoration and maintenance of heritage buildings within Goulburn. Seven of these projects will be undertaken within the CBD, with $30,000 to be spent on buildings within Auburn Street.

The Local Heritage Grant Program is part funded by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry to a maximum of $5,500 which is matched at a rate of $2 from Council to each $1 from the NSW Government.

Mayor Bob Kirk said it was pleasing to be able to consider a number of strong applications for funding each year, which highlights the value of preserving our heritage.

“The funding provided for these projects shows Council’s clear commitment to the ongoing preservation of heritage, particularly in the CBD where $30,000 has been allocated this year.

“Projects include replacement of roof and guttering, painting, repair works to verandahs and a lightening protection system for St Saviours Cathedral. In the CBD all monies will be going towards painting works for facades and awnings, which should make a great improvement for our main streetscape. “

In June this year Council invited targeted Auburn Street businesses, with the aim of attracting further applications to improve the CBD. A condition is placed on all grants for painting, that the colour scheme be agreed with Council prior to the start of work.

Grant funding is offered as part of the project and does not exceed 50% of the project cost, with property owners also contributing their own funds for the works.
