The Goulburn Show Society and other users of the Goulburn Recreation Area will benefit significantly from upgrades completed thanks to funding received in phase two of the NSW Government Showgrounds Stimulus Funding Program.

Works have recently been completed at the Recreation Area, which included an upgrade of the Peden Pavilion, all weather cover over the livestock yards and installation of a 15MW solar system on the Grace-Millsom Function Centre. Goulburn Mulwaree Council received a total of $336,771 through the program for the projects.

Mayor Bob Kirk said the upgrades would be welcomed by the community, and will provide a huge benefit to all users of the Recreation Area.

“This timely funding from the NSW Government has enabled us to make some real improvements at the Recreation Area that otherwise would simply not have happened.

“Upgrades will make life much easier for the Goulburn Show Society, but also improve the use of the space for emergencies when we need to have livestock at the Recreation Area as an example of other benefits.

“Goulburn Recreation Area is utilised by over a dozen different community groups, and it has been positive to be able to make a number of improvements out there this financial year, all due to the Showground Stimulus Funding Program.”

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the NSW Government’s COVID-19 stimulus program was about supporting local jobs but - most importantly – supporting the local community.

“The Goulburn region will benefit from better showground facilities and the infrastructure like the solar power system for Grace-Millsom Function Centre and the upgrades to Peden Pavilion will serve generations into the future.”

Upgrade of the Peden Pavilion included significant electrical work, along with upgrading the –public toilets which were decades old.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council was also successful in phase one of the NSW Government Showgrounds Stimulus Funding Program, receiving $446,744 to install new retractable basketball hoops, resealing the Gate 3 car park next to the Veolia Area  and purchasing five mobile tiered seating units for use in the Veolia Arena.
