Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme enhances community Resilience and Sustaina

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is excited to announce the official launch of the Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme, a groundbreaking project aimed at boosting water resilience in the community.
This initiative utilises high-quality effluent from the upgraded wastewater treatment plant for the irrigation of playing fields and recreational areas across seven designated sites in Goulburn. By using treated water sourced from the upgraded facility, we enhance irrigation for recreational areas, reducing strain on the potable water network and ensuring year-round water security.
This project offers increased water resilience and environmental benefits for the council and the local community, promoting physical and mental well-being while setting a precedent for environmental stewardship and water conservation. With strong community involvement, this project showcases our commitment to sustainable solutions for a brighter future, benefiting thousands of residents, sports teams, schools, and community groups annually.
The Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme not only enhances water management but also supports economic growth and job creation in our community, with an estimated 50 jobs during the project.
Mayor Peter Walker of Goulburn Mulwaree Council emphasizes the importance of accessible green spaces, health promotion, and addressing water scarcity and environmental concerns through this collaborative effort.

This project reflects the community's dedication to overcoming challenges and fostering sustainability for a better tomorrow.”

This project was funded by the Australian Government ($4.4 million), in association with Goulburn Mulwaree Council ($7.159 million).
