Historic day for Goulburn Performing Arts Centre

In a historic day for Goulburn and the region, the first sod was today officially turned at the site of the new 400 seat Performing Arts Centre in Auburn Street.

Mayor Bob Kirk was joined by Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor and NSW Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman for the occasion. Zauner Constructions have now established the site and will begin the footings and groundwork for the project in January 2020.

“This will be a game changing asset for our region, and is a great example of three levels of Government, along with a wonderful community partner in Veolia, working together with a common goal” said Mayor Bob Kirk.

Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor said the project will boost jobs and bring economic benefits to Goulburn during the construction phase and beyond.

“By supporting 255 jobs in construction in addition to using local businesses and supplies, this project will help bring economic growth to the region for many years to come and will position Goulburn as a recognised destination for the performing arts,” Mr Taylor said.

NSW Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said: “I am delighted to see the progression of the Performing Arts Centre and to be part of a Government that is supporting exciting and bold projects in regional communities like ours.

The approved construction budget for the project is $18.95m of which Council will contribute $11.2 million. $4.5m has been gained through the NSW Government Regional Cultural Fund, and a further $1m through the Federal Government National Stronger Regions Fund. Veolia Mulwaree Trust have also generously pledged $2.5m as a community partner for the project.
