Memory, Moment, Momentum

As the community is well aware, we are around halfway through construction of the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, with a target opening date in November 2021.

To begin preparing for an opening weekend event, a group of Goulburn’s leaders within the creative arts sector have begun planning for the celebrations, with the theme ‘Memory, Moment, Momentum.’ The Opening Night Committee is now the community to share memories of performing arts within our region, or share your excitement for the future, so that these thoughts, emotions and aspirations can help shape the event.

Short videos are being shared on social media throughout the next two weeks to start conversations and to inspire the community to provide their own feedback.

A simple survey is now open for two weeks on Council’s website, with feedback being welcomed until the 20th November. Hard copy surveys are also available at the Civic Centre or the Goulburn Mulwaree Library. For those people who may wish to provide feedback verbally this can be done face to face at the Goulburn Mulwaree Civic Centre (184 Bourke Street) or via phone to 4823 4515.

In the meantime, work on placement of precast wall panels for the auditorium has progressed well over recent weeks, with 140 of the 210 panels needed now installed. When complete the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre will seat 400 audience members, and provide a world class performance space right in the heart of Goulburn.

The GPAC will attract shows of a national calibre with planning for the 2022 program to begin next year, but will also house a number of local shows. The Opening Weekend event will be a collaborative spectacle involving all of the main performance groups in the region.

Garage Sale Trail

There is only two weeks to go until Australia’s biggest community sustainability event – the Garage Sale Trail. Goulburn Mulwaree Council has now been a partner for four years, and we are again promoting the sale trail which will be held on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November.

This year the team at Garage Sale Trail have put a number of COVID-19 safety measures in place to ensure the event can go ahead, but the good news is in NSW garage sales can still go ahead in person!

In Goulburn there are already 24 sales registered, so if you are searching for a bargain this will be the weekend to do it. There is also time to register your sale if you are thinking about doing a garage clean out, and I’d encourage you to get onto www.garagesaletrail.com.au to do that  trail,

Cricket NSW Country Championships

We are excited to be hosting the Southern Pool of the 2020 Cricket NSW Country Championships from the 20th – 22nd of November.

Sporting carnivals and major events are a big boost for our region not only in allowing our players to enjoy competing at a high level at home, but also in benefit to our economy. Across the weekend we expect to welcome around 340 people from outside our region to Goulburn, with an estimated economic benefit of $280,000.

It’s great to have COVID-19 back under a good level of control, allowing us to get back to some form of normalcy with events. As the community is aware we have just completed the Seiffert Oval Grandstand (Max Hadlow Stand) refurbishment which is just in time for this event. This was a great project undertaken by local tradesmen that now fits in perfectly with the Ken Robson Pavilion which was completed and opened last year. Seiffert Oval can now lay stakes to being one of the premier facilities for Cricket and Cycling in NSW, and I look forward to many more major events here in the coming years.
