Council Meeting
We have a busy Tuesday night Council meeting ahead of us this week, with twenty two reports to consider including a number of important issues. Items on the agenda include:
- Expressions of interest for use of the Council Irrigation Farm
- A planning proposal for rezoning of Mistful Park to residential
- A planning proposal for Lansdowne Street which also includes site specific development controls
- Our 2020/21 local heritage grant program, and CBD grant program. These are focused on improving heritage buildings in the region and CBD.
- Recommendation to form a working party focusing on the upgrade of Copford Reach, a picturesque section of the Wollondilly River.
- Monthly project updates on St Clair conservation works, the Aquatic Centre Redevelopment and the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre
Members of the public are welcome to come along to the meetings, however numbers are restricted due to COVID-19, and physical distancing is in place. We also webcast our meetings each fortnight through our website, and these are saved for later viewing if you are interested.
Outdoor Pool opening delayed
Unfortunately we have had to delay opening of the Outdoor Pool for three weeks, due to the uncovering of materials containing asbestos during demolition of the indoor pool. This was not an unexpected discovery, however the amount of material that needs to be removed has meant the best option is to keep this facility closed for a few extra weeks to undertake the work quickly and safely.
The Goulburn Skate Park will also be closed for three weeks, with FDC Contracting hoping to complete removal of the materials by early October. All work is being undertaken by licensed contractors under the supervision of an asbestos consultant, and Council hopes to have the Outdoor Pool and the Skate Park open again in early October.
There is no danger to the public, but Council has chosen to take extra precaution in order to get the clean-up done quickly and safely. Management plans are in place for removal of the materials, which include dust suppression and wrapping (bonding) of the non-friable asbestos, while background perimeter air monitoring will be undertaken.
Council apologises for the inconvenience, and will keep you updated on the likely opening dates of both facilities which should not be too far away.
Free e-waste weekend reminder
A final reminder for the free e-waste, mattress and white goods weekend being held at our Waste Management Centres this Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th September.
Council will accept fridges/freezers/air-conditioners, mattresses, clean steel and e-waste across this weekend at Waste Management Centres in Goulburn, Marulan and Tarago. Bulky household general waste such as furniture or garden waste will be accepted at the November disposal weekend later this year.
The weekend is always a busy, successful one, and a great opportunity to clean the back shed or the spare room. There may be some line-ups across the weekend so please be patient, but we will have extra staff working to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible, while following COVID-safe protocols.
