National Tree Day Tour
Last Sunday was National Tree Day, which was this year held at the Wollondilly River Walkway down near Kenmore Street. We managed to plant around 750 trees on the day which was a fantastic effort, and we had a good crowd of community members give us a hand throughout Sunday morning.
Over the past two weeks Deputy Mayor Peter Walker and I have also had the privilege of visiting every school within our local government area to promote and celebrate National Tree Day. We’ve been joined by students, teachers and principals to plant a tree at each of the twenty schools, and have had some great discussions around the importance of trees for us, our environment and bees, birds and other animals.
The effort to visit each of the schools was certainly worthwhile, and I hope the students took a little bit of extra knowledge home, and perhaps planted a tree themselves at home.
Family History Month at Goulburn Library
Throughout August our brilliant library is hosting author talks, workshops and events as part of Family History Month.
Events will include an information session on the Library’s historic photo collection (3rd August), a workshop on mapping your family tree (7th August) and ‘Stories behind the stained glass windows of St Saviours Cathedral’ on the 15th August.
All activities are free, however bookings are essential. These can be made online at www.gmlibrary.com.au, in person at the Library or by calling 4823 4435.
Victor Chang Heart Health Check Tour
The Heart Health Check Service is currently touring NSW aiming to encourage the community to take a step towards better heart health by getting screened for three key risk factors; blood pressure, blood sugar and blood pressure.
The check is non-invasive, only takes 10 minutes and results are immediate. They will be in Goulburn Square (near OPSM) on Friday August 9th between 9am and 4pm. Please go along and take the opportunity for a free heart health check!
Goulburn Connect – 6th August
A reminder for August Goulburn Connect, which as always will be held at 5:30pm at the Collective (corner of Market & Auburn Streets).
Goulburn Connect is a free local networking event that includes guest speakers, pitches and the chance to chat with other professionals and likeminded people. This month Darrell Weekes from Purple Thread Marketing will be the guest speaker, speaking about how effective marketing costs nothing.
