On Tuesday we held what I believe is the largest ever Citizenship Ceremony in Goulburn, officially welcoming 37 new residents into the Goulburn community as Australian citizens.
We are privileged to live in Australia, and in the wonderful Goulburn community, and these ceremonies have always been a reminder of this to me.
We welcomed new citizens from France, India, South Korea, Britain, Thailand, Fiji, Ireland, Tonga, New Zealand and the Philippines. Each new resident went home with a certificate, a plant and a smile on their face, welcome to Goulburn Mulwaree!
Skate Park completed and open!
The extension to the Victoria Park Skate Park being undertaken by Trinity Skateparks is now complete and open! The area has been landscaped, and two shade shelters have been added which make it a much nicer place for skaters and families.
The new park incorporates street skating elements which was what our community asked for during consultation at the end of last year, and each time I’ve been past the park on my daily commute over the past few days it has been packed with skaters, scooter riders and BMX riders taking advantage of the new sections.
It is a great asset for our community and adds to the amazing work being done to transform Victoria Park into a health and wellbeing precinct. Those who say there is nothing to do in Goulburn simply aren’t looking in the right places in my opinion!
National Tree Day
National Tree Day is this Sunday 28th July – this year’s event will be held at the PCYC end of the Wollondilly River Walkway (27 Kenmore Street) between 9am and midday.
Throughout this week and next week I have the wonderful chance to get out and around to each of the schools within our Local Government Area, all twenty of them! We will be saying hello to students, discussing the importance of trees and National Tree Day, and also planting a new tree in each school.
Goulburn Country Motors (Toyota) is the major sponsor of National Tree Day, and will provide us with tree stakes and guards. A free BBQ will also be run for all participants. Hope to see you there this Sunday.
