Council goes online

This week we were forced online for our Council meeting, due to the current stay at home orders. A big thankyou must go to the IT Team at Council who worked hard to make sure everything ran smoothly, and I was pleased that we were able to meet through zoom and discuss issues as normal.

We will continue with zoom for the first meeting in September at this stage, and these will be live streamed through our website as normal.

On Tuesday night we considered and made decisions on these reports:

DA: Truck Depot at 31 Lockyer St, Goulburn.

Council refused this development application as it did not meet a number of requirements under the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Environment Plan 2009 and Goulburn Mulwaree Development Control Plan 2009. The reasons are available to view in the minutes.
Organic Material Screening Machine

Council approved purchase of this machine from GCM Enviro at a cost of $379,500 for processing of green waste at the Goulburn Waste Management Centre.
Naming of Community Facilities

Council confirmed the hockey facility will be named the Goulburn Regional Hockey Centre. At this facility a plaque will be erected in the pavilion to recognise the contributions of Ray Harvey to sport in the region. Council also chose to name the Cookbundoon Pavilion the Graham Coe Pavilion to recognise his commitment and service to soccer.
Village Discretionary Funds

Due to delay of the council elections the Village Discretionary Fund Working Parties will be re-constituted until the 30th November 2021 if they so wish and be authorised to expend in their communities 50% of the 2021/22 Discretionary Fund allocation for their villages plus any funds that were unspent at 30th June 2021.
Budget Carry-overs

Council approved carry-over of unspent funds in order to complete a number of projects including the Cookbundoon Amenities Building, Mountain Ash Road renewal and many others.

Goulburn Mulwaree Award

Council have also decided that due to postponement of the Council elections we will get underway with expressions of interest for the Goulburn Mulwaree Award working party.

The Goulburn Mulwaree Award has been created to to recognise outstanding service or achievements by individuals to the community of the Goulburn Mulwaree Local Government Area. Announcements and presentations of the award will be held in conjunction with the City of Goulburn’s birthday (14 March) or as otherwise determined by the working party.

The role of successful working party applicants will be to make decisions relating to processing and assessment, and assist with presentation arrangements for the Goulburn Mulwaree Award.

The working party will consist of 7 participants to include the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and five community representatives selected by Council from the expression of interest process.

Expression of interest should be submitted to Goulburn Mulwaree Council no later than Friday 17th September 2021

An online form has been created on our website under the ‘Community’ heading à Goulburn Mulwaree Award.

Written submissions can also be posted to Goulburn Mulwaree Council addressed to:

  • Office of the Mayor, Locked Bag 22, Goulburn NSW 2580.
  • -or submitted via email to council@goulburn.nsw.gov.au marked attention of the Mayor’s Office.

Steampunk Victoriana Fair postponed

This week we had to make the difficult decision to postpone the Steampunk Victoriana Fair due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

The event, which was scheduled for October, will now be shifted to March 11th - 13th, 2022. A fireshow will be planned for Friday evening, and all stallholders and performers booked for the event will be invited to attend the event in March.

Unfortunately with the case numbers still growing in NSW it is just not feasible to continue the planning work for Steampunk. The event attracts people from right around NSW and from as far as Tasmania, Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory, and at the moment it is hard to see the borders being open by early October.

We hope to get the same stallholders and performers booked in for March next year, and be able to welcome people from around Australia once again.
