Council elections delayed

As I wrote my column last week I did not expect I’d be writing another column as Mayor prior to the elections, but the current COVID-19 lockdowns mean it is nearly impossible to run an election, therefore all Council elections in NSW have been delayed to December.

The current Council have served since September 2016, meaning we will go a year and 3 months longer then we first expected. It is a frustrating delay however completely understandable, and in the meantime we will get on with the work at hand for the second half of this year prior to elections.

COVID-19 update

It has been a difficult week north of our region, as Greater Sydney saw cases continue to multiply up to 239 on Thursday. The lockdown has been extended for the entire month of August at this stage, which means we too need to keep wearing our masks, keeping our distance and checking in.

Fortunately there have been no serious scares in Goulburn Mulwaree for over a week now, with no added venues of concern. We were notified on Wednesday of a Goulburn resident who was diagnosed with COVID-19, however this person was not in Goulburn or in any part of Southern NSW Health District during their infectious period.

They are currently undertaking their isolation. Contact tracing of their movements has been completed and no exposure sites have been identified in Southern NSW.

Flying the flag for Goulburn

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is proudly welcoming residents and visitors to the CBD of the City, following installation of new flag display poles this week as part of the ongoing CBD enhancement project.

Eight flag poles have been erected in the Auburn Street block between Montague and Clifford Street, with a further thirty two to be installed in the coming two months.

The first flags being flown are branded with our Goulburn Australia theme, and welcome everyone to the CBD and City.

We are also excited to build up a bank of flags for yearly events like Pictures & Popcorn as well as holidays such as Christmas. The banner poles can also be used for facilities such as the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, and will be a great addition to our methods in promotion of all the great things that occur around the region.

The installation of the banner poles is expected to be complete in September, just in time for a glorious spring. By then we hope that COVID-19 restrictions may be easing, and we will be able to plan and promote a calendar of events towards the end of 2021.

Upcoming compost sale weekend

We are edging to the end of a wet winter, and it’s time to prepare your garden for a spectacular spring. Council will be selling our 5 star compost product next Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th August at the Goulburn Waste Management Centre. Compost is only $20 cubic metre and our team will be selling between 8am and 12 noon on Saturday and Sunday.
