Outdoor Pool opening date set

Opening of the outdoor pool at the Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre for the summer season has been confirmed for Monday 12th October.

The opening was delayed in mid-September, due to the uncovering of materials containing asbestos during demolition of the indoor pool. The skate park will be reopened from this Saturday, 3rd October – we will also be washing it down on Friday prior to opening.

I know many of our residents were looking forward to getting back in the outdoor pool and were disappointed by the delay, but I am pleased we have been able to get this important phase of the clean-up completed safely.

Temporary site amenities have been put in place on site including a site office, reception area, male, female and disabled toilets along with change rooms. Entry to the outdoor pool will be located in the existing northern car park.

Eight new citizens welcomed

It was my privilege last week to welcome eight new citizens, in what was the first citizenship ceremony able to be held since Australia Day, due to COVID-19.

I was joined by Deputy Mayor Peter Walker to present certificates to the citizens, who come from seven different countries - Sweden, Ireland, United Kingdom, Scotland, Philippines, Palestine and India.

It has been a difficult year, and a long wait for some of these new citizens as we worked through COVID-19 patiently waiting for the chance to host a ceremony. During this time people have been offered the opportunity to complete their citizenship through online events, however it is such a nice occasion that many chose to wait until a ceremony could be held in person.

Welcome to all of these residents, who now have the right to vote and hold an Australian Passport.

Auburn Street Tree Progress

The contractors working on our CBD enhancement project, which will see trees planted down the median of three blocks of Auburn Street, are making great progress.

The old median strip has been removed in each block, with hole penetrations now also completed in each job. This was a big milestone, as the depth necessary to ensure the trees are able to establish strong root systems was significant.

This week concreting of the new median strips will be completed, with the trees to planted over the coming weeks to complete the project. I am certainly looking forward to seeing the results!

Talent 2580

Talent2580 will help you attract, motivate and grow your employee base, with a series of interactive panel discussions to be held in October as part of NSW Small Business Month.

Goulburn Chamber of Commerce and the Goulburn Mulwaree Council have teamed up to put together the events, which are focused around the strategies businesses can use to attract the staff you need, motivate your employees to perform and also utilise disability employment services.

Each discussion will feature a panel of local experts in that field, from a variety of workplaces and backgrounds. The idea is that they will be interactive, with questions from the floor and maybe even via Facebook, and I’m sure everyone will gain something from the events.

The panel events will be held on consecutive Thursday evening’s in October, kicking off at 6pm:

  • October 8th: Attracting the right talent
  • October 15th: Motivate and retain employees
  • October 22nd: Grow with disability employment

Each event will be held at The Collective, Auburn Street, however places will be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions. In order to cater for the wider community each event will also be live streamed via Zoom and Facebook pages of the Chamber and Council.
