Mighty Playwrights

Now in its third successful year, Mighty Playwrights saw local primary students, nominated by their schools, work with professional mentors at the Goulburn Mulwaree Library to develop and write short play scripts. The plays are then transformed into full-scale productions by Goulburn’s Lieder Theatre Company.

On the evening of Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd September, the Mighty Playwrights were live on stage at the GPAC, over the two nights 488 people went to watch.

Full of adventure, humor and friendship, the plays showcased some of the best writing and performances in the Goulburn region. I had the pleasure of watching this on Thursday night and this show was absolutely magnificent.

The Goulburn Performing Art Centre (GPAC) has a plethora of events lined up and I encourage you to visit their website for the full list.

GOULBURN AQUATIC & LEISURE CENTRE

Our brand new Aquatic & Leisure Centre is open and with the weather starting to warm up, it is a brilliant time to enjoy this brilliant facility. Whether it is for fun or fitness, it has a range of programs and services, from learn to swim classes to aqua aerobics. We have three indoor pools, and in indoor water play area for the youngsters. The centre is open Monday – Friday 6am – 8pm, Saturdays 8am – 6pm and Sundays 9am – 6pm and 9am – 5pm on public holidays.

OCTOBER LONG WEEEKEND

There’s plenty happening in the region this coming weekend. We have the 71st Annual Lilac City Festival, Streamliners Australia, and various shows as a part of the Festival of Regional Theatre just to name a few. These events have been supported by the NSW Government’s Reconnecting Regional NSW – Community Events Program and Goulburn Mulwaree Council.

The Goulburn Lilac City Festival is Australia's longest continuously-run community festival. It was established in 1951 and has occurred annually, every October long weekend ever since.

Six years ago Streamliners Australia brought together 20 classic Australian locomotives at the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre under the ‘Streamliners 2016’ banner. Streamliners Australia will be looking to outdo that event with Streamliners 2022.

There is an abundance of creative talent in regional NSW, and this October long weekend it will take centre stage at Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, with the launch of the brand new Festival of Regional Theatre.
