Mighty Playwrights receives funding boost

Goulburn Mulwaree Library’s award-winning Mighty Playwrights program will continue in 2025, thanks to generous donations from the Lions Club of Goulburn City and Rotary Club of Goulburn.
Mighty Playwrights, a creative literacy program for primary aged students in the Goulburn region has been run successfully by Goulburn Mulwaree Library since 2019, however the 2025 program was cancelled earlier this year due to lack of suitable funding to continue the program.
Goulburn’s Lions and Rotary Clubs expressed interest in supporting Mighty Playwrights after learning of the program’s cancellation. Each Club will provide a $5000 donation to Goulburn Mulwaree Library to enable Mighty Playwrights to continue in 2025.
The 2024 program saw six local young writers, six young musicians, and twenty-four young artists work with 8 professional mentors to create a suite of six original stage plays with accompanying illustrations and music scores. The plays were staged by the Lieder Theatre Company, with over 750 community members enjoying the performances.
“The Mighty Playwrights experience has had such a positive impact on student learning and growth. Engagement with drama and literacy connections improved and their confidence and ability to lead creative workshops grew astronomically. Their social communication and interaction with peers improved as their confidence developed; with many of their friends attending the performance in support of their accomplishment.” Said Ketryna Coupe, Principal, Bradfordville Public School.
“Thanks to these generous donations from Goulburn’s Lions and Rotary Clubs, Goulburn Mulwaree Library is now able to continue its collaboration with the Lieder Theatre Company, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, and Hume Conservatorium to provide this unique and powerful creative literacy program to young people in the Goulburn region.” Said Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Nina Dillon
