River Walkway projects near completion

Using the Wollondilly River Walkway in the early hours of morning or the dark of night will soon be much safer and easier, thanks to solar lighting being installed courtesy of a Community Sport Infrastructure grant from Sport Australia.
Poles for the lighting have now been installed along the entire length of the walkway, and the entire project is expected to be completed by the start of October, which is timely as the warmer months approach.
Stage two of the walkway is also drawing closer to completion, after delays to the bridge structure due to redesign and steel supply issues have slowed progress. The structure and contractors are expected to be onsite in October to complete the work. Stage two was funded through the Federal Government Building Better Regions Fund ($937,147) and the NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Fund ($363,417).
“These projects will add a lot to the river walkway, which is already one of the most well used community spaces in the region. Gaining this grant funding is excellent for Goulburn, and on behalf of the community I’d like to thank Sport Australia, the Federal Government and the NSW Government” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
“The solar lighting will be a great addition to the walkway for Goulburn residents who use the track in the early mornings or late in the evening. I’m keen to see the completion of stage two in the coming months and for the community to have use of the entire walkway from Marsden Weir to Kenmore Bridge,” said Angus Taylor.
Mrs Tuckerman said the NSW Government’s significant investment in projects like the Wollondilly River Walkway, part of the once-in-a-generation Stronger Country Communities Fund, is already providing benefits for Goulburn’s residents and visitors alike.
“I’m delighted to see the second stage of the project coming to fruition - with so much development happening in the area and with the warmer weather on the way - I’m sure I will be seeing even more locals using this wonderful community asset,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
Additional handrails are also being added to the walkway at steeper sections of the path in close proximity to the new bridge to be installed.
