Step closer to construction of new Aquatic Centre

Goulburn Mulwaree Council is a step closer to the $28m redevelopment of the Goulburn Aquatic & Leisure Centre following Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Councillors considered a report regarding the expression of interest process for construction of the new facility, and resolved to issue tender documentation to five companies for responses; being ADCO Constructions, Haslin Constructions, Zauner Constructions, Icon SI and Lahey Constructions.
Mayor Bob Kirk said the progress being made is promising, and leading to construction beginning next year.
“With the detailed design now complete we are entering a very important phase in the project where we will work through the workshops to achieve the best value for money. This phase takes some time, but is critical to success of the project, and I look forward to construction beginning in 2020.”
Value engineering workshops will be conducted in October, and it is expected a report following the outcome of the request for tender process will be presented to Council in December this year. Councillors will then make the final decision to award the construction tender, with construction to begin next year.
Stage one of the project includes refurbishment of the existing indoor 25m pool, an additional 10 lane 25m indoor pool, a hydrotherapy pool, outdoor water play area, café, new change rooms and amenities and car parking and landscaping upgrades.
Council would also like to again acknowledge the generous contribution of the NSW Government, who have allocated $10 million towards the project.
