Free waste weekend postponed to December
Published on 08 October 2021
Goulburn Mulwaree Council’s upcoming free waste disposal weekend due to be held on the first weekend in November has been postponed until Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 December 2021 due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
Council has made the decision to postpone the disposal weekend in line with the NSW Government restrictions of large gatherings and organised events during the pandemic. The NSW roadmap to reopening indicates that organised events with unlimited attendees are permissible (with a COVID-safe plan in place) from 1 December 2021 and Council needs to abide by these conditions.
“We know that the timing for postponing the disposal weekend is not ideal, as many people are using this time to clean out the home or shed, however it is absolutely necessary that we adhere to the restrictions in order to keep our community safe” said Mayor Bob Kirk.
“As we are still under tight restrictions, it is important that we as a community continue to do the right thing in social distancing and only undertaking essential activities. Council needs to play a role, and a disposal weekend that would be classified as a large organised event is simply not possible and non-essential at this point in time.”
“I am sure a disposal weekend at the beginning of December will work well for an end of year clean-out and expect it will still be a busy weekend.”
Council will release further information on the free waste disposal weekend in the coming weeks, assuming it can go ahead once restrictions are eased.
