Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme
Council is excited to announce the official launch of the Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme, a groundbreaking project aimed at enhancing water resilience in the community. This initiative utilises high-quality effluent from the upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plant for the irrigation of playing fields and recreational areas across seven designated sites in Goulburn. By using treated water sourced from the upgraded facility, this scheme enhances irrigation for recreational areas, reducing the strain on the potable water network and ensuring year-round water security.
This project provides both increased water resilience and environmental benefits for the local community. It promotes physical and mental well-being, while setting a strong example for environmental stewardship and water conservation. The initiative reflects the commitment to sustainable solutions, benefiting thousands of residents, sporting teams, schools, and community groups annually.
The Goulburn Water Reuse Scheme not only improves water management but also supports economic growth and job creation within the community, with an estimated 50 jobs generated during the project.
This initiative will contribute to the livability and vibrancy of Goulburn by improving recreational spaces and playing fields. It addresses key challenges related to water management and conservation, helping the community to overcome these hurdles in a sustainable way.
The project has been made possible with funding from the Australian Government ($4.4 million), in association with Goulburn Mulwaree Council ($7.159 million).
Commencement of Reuse Water Supply
Starting from Monday, 26th February, reuse water will be utilised to irrigate key public spaces across the city. These spaces include Hudson Park, North Park, Carr Confoy Park, Victoria Park, and the Recreation Area.
This initiative underscores the Council's commitment to promoting sustainable water use and environmental protection. By repurposing treated wastewater for irrigation, we are conserving valuable potable water resources and maintaining the lush, healthy parks that residents and visitors enjoy.
The reuse water supplied from the Goulburn Wastewater Treatment Plant is treated to a high standard, ensuring it is safe and effective for irrigation purposes. This project will not only maintain beautiful green spaces but also contribute to the overall resilience of Goulburn’s water systems, ensuring that our community can continue to thrive.
